Q: Football corruption scandals in China?

I know basketball is the big thing in the land, but why is football so weak here? Do people just not like the sport, or is it because of the corruption scandals?

I'm pretty sure it just stems from having a (relatively new) history of association with basketball, which of course was an American import, rather than anything to do with scandal. You can tell the narrow popularity of the sport by seeing how few footballs are sold in supermarkets (alongside all different brands, makes and prices of basketball). When you do get one, try rolling a football to any kid. Nine times out of ten they'll practically fall over themselves trying to kick it back, often missing the ball completely.

If you do the same in the UK, 90% of kids could kick it back to your feet.

Mind you, with the rise of power and huge amounts of money in football transactions, I'm sure it won't be long before the Chinese are bidding to take over the FA.
