I had a VPN but had to dump it as it was ineffective and made my whole wifi unusable. Is there any other way that I can access my gmail as I have important emails I need to check.

I can access Gmail account through Safari (Mail folder) on Mac without VPN. All other Gmail futures are blocked, but I get emails from Gmail few times a day at once. Several emails came to Mail folder two or three times per day.
I'm not running Windows OS on my puter.

I can also get my mail on my Mac without a VPN... however, sometimes I get 2 of everything which is a little annoying but it's better than none.

Trick is in Safari Mail folder, which accept emails as soon as block isn't 100%. I don't get doubled emails, but I receive several emails at once, several times a day.
Gmail behave similar as when I disconnect Wi-fi, and then reconnect it later. I'll receive all arrived emails at once, doesn't matter from GOOG or Yahoo.

I had the same problem, client emails to check every day. All I did was to set up another email account, not with gmail, and then set my original gmail account to forward all email to the new email address. to date it works perfectly and I have had no problems at all.

In time, when GOOG was still open in China? I wanted to say, if OP wants to do the same, he must exit China.

No I did mine after China started to mess about with gmail, this is why I did it the way I did. Maybe I was lucky and chose a time when google was only partially blocked.
Thanks guys. I should have thought ahead and set up a forwarding email address. I can't access gmail now to do so.
I have set up another emall and sent to important contacts so they can get in touch if it is urgent.

Gmail works (worked) well in HK (a month ago). If you have an urgency, HK would be the place to reset Gmail to forward emails to Yahoo-gle Mail or any other open provider in China.
I get my emails through my iPhone. I used to get them, then the crap hit the fan late last year, and now they're back again.
No private unreal things needed....
I set u Yahoo mail account and it was working for a few days but now it wont load. Are they blocking other emails as well?

I also have Yahoo, but it works well on my home wi-fi, which is stronger than School's. Sometimes, I have problems to open my Y mail in print office at School.
Open Yahoo, and click Ymail, top R on Y! home page.
I download a local email client to access Gmail without a VPN, it;s called Yomail. It's free, easy to use and safe since it doesn't require any registration for the website. you can download it from the website ( www.yomail.com/en/ ). They only have Windows OS versiona and the OS will come out soon.
