Next time I go to Guangzhou I would like to check out the old town if it's worth it. I heard you can find some real traditional Chinese stuff there. Is it in Yuexiu park? Can anyone give advice for things to do or see around there? I'd like some personal experience and advice, thanks.
Real traditional stuff don't exist anymore in today's China, except if by traditional you mean the washed out CCP's version of Chinese culture.
Western Guangzhou (Yuexiu, Liwan, ...) is crowded, dirty, smelly, old (not in a good way) and the local Cantonese folks have been outnumbered by migrants from the other provinces.
If you still want to go check the area around Haizhu square, countless shops selling handicrafts and antiques around there.

I disagree. If you walk into Liwan area from Zhongshan Ba metro station past Liwan park they've done a reasonable job of renovating the old stream & buildings round there. It's a nice walk through that area down towards Shamian. A number of interesting little backstreets and it only becomes really cluttered/untidy as you get to the wholesale food shops area. Even then it's an interesting place to see, in my opinion.
