So my girlfriend is Korean and doesn't speak English, and I don't speak Korean, so basically all of our communication is in Chinese. Several of my friends and family have pointed out that this is weird. I agree, though I also feel it has some advantages over dating a native speaker, specifically I have found that using a mutual second language to communicate is more egalitarian than dating a Chinese person and only speaking either Chinese or English, since in that case one person is always the "language authority" and that authority tends to spill over into a false feeling of superiority or inferiority depending on which end of the language you're on. Luckily my Chinese sucks as much as my girlfriend's. Just wondering if anyone else out there has had this experience and would like to weigh in on its advantages or downsides.

My friend who was non Chinese..use to communicate with her Vietnamese girlfriend in Chines..because his girlfriend do not know English..but both were knowing Chinese..
I went out with a Korean girl that didn't speak English. It didn't last. As soon as she opened her eyes, the first words that came out of her mouth were to take her home to my country. She hated China but was only after a green card.
