Q: Have you ever been stuck with a counterfeit banknote here?

Have you ever been stuck with a counterfeit banknote here?  I have on the occasion and it almost always seems to happen in Guanghzou.   Sometimes I have been the victim of a pay-and-switch, meaning I paid for a bill all in 100 RMB notes and the clerk disappeared outback, returned like 10 minutes later complaining that half were fake.  I found that Guanghzou taxi drivers love to dole out fake notes, particulary 50 RMB's and 100 RMB's.  Your experiences please.

Fake notes in China? Why, I never!

But seriously, yes, it happens all the time. Don't be surprised.

One of their classic tricks for taxi drivers, which seem to have made a comeback recently (about which I've talked about before), is to take your 100 note, pretend to look for change in their left pocket (thus hiding the 100 note from your eyes), then pull out a fake one and go "O....OH? DIS IS FAKE NOTE! YOU GIVE ME FAKE NOTE! IS FAKE! YOU GIVE ME OTHER NOTE NOW! IS FAKE!", and even if you tell him that you know perfectly well what he is doing, and that you know that it's not the one you just gave him because the one you gave wasn't bright red, with the texture of an old man's face and a big piece of the corned ripped off, he still won't admit it, because China. Having face =/= acting in an honorable way that will not bring shame on you, noooooo, having face = lying but never admitting you are wrong, because that way you.... keep your honor?

Anyway, I'm not planning to go on a long rant again, because I'm coming to China for christmas and new year, and I'd rather forget why I started being angry at everyone all the time and left.
