a lot of schools and universities are finished for this semester.
Are you traveling or staying put, or do you still have to make travel plans?

Leaving on the 25th for the Philippines. My company's holidays are always shorter than the norm, so only staying for 8 days then heading back. Still have a few days off after I get back....I'll probably stay holed up in my room
cooter:
Yep, works out well for me. CNY is too soon after the Christmas holidays, so I don't really wanna head back home. Going to the phils is reasonably cheap, provided you can book the airfare far enough in advance!
Heading to Manila on the 30th then Puerto Princesa, El Nido and Coron until the 14th. Finished most travel planning but still have one domestic flight to book.
Nice part of CNY is that Beijing is emptying out and taking the subway is less of a pain (that's "less", not "no longer".
Staying put.
Scandinavian:
nah. I can go down and jump on a bus and be in a supermarket that claims to be open all days throughout, or even better, assume my mother in law will come buy and cook every day. I am low on coffee which last time I ordered was a week underway, this could fail in which case it's back to instant coffee to stay awake during CNY:
Off to Kunming, Dali and Lijiang next Tuesday.
Probably have to rub shoulders with plenty of others during that time of the year.
Quite looking forward to a cold beer pulled from a tap and some food eaten with tools other than chopsticks.
How about yourself?
sorrel:
hope the journey goes smoothly for you
i'm back home now, still trying to readjust to local time
Scandinavian:
@sorrel. Back home Back home ? Careful with the food, you might blow up if you overeat.
royceH:
Aren't we still trying to work out where your home is, Sorrel? Some obscure place near the UK.... Right?
In any case, have a fun trip. As Scando has advised, be careful not to blow yourself up!
sorrel:
i am enjoying fresh salad every day, along with fresh air and exercise.
I could also add roast pork , but strangely i am missing the food i regularly eat in China.
no danger of putting on weight here
After a couple of days with the in-laws, we're off to NZ. Southern sun, here we come ^^
Heading up to Beijing tomorrow! Got the train ticket, luggage packed, house keeper informed......9 hour train ride ahead.....Forbidden City, ready or not....here I come!
I'm staying put. Went away for xmas so can't go anywhere now. But it seems quite a lot of people will be around, so it won't be quite as boring as I feared.
I traveled to EU a week ago! Now, I must come back----->getting train ticket from Beijing to Urumqi around Feb. 7th. My wishes are toward 'sleeper'.
royceH:
What's the difference in price between train and plane? I'm thinking, not much.
icnif77:
Hard sleeper goes for around 600 Rmb, hard seat costs 315 Rmb. It takes some 35h with train. I think plane cost is around 1400 Rmb. Plane is timely more convenient than train, buTT...I have pleasure to travel with train in China, because I compare price in China with price in EU or USA for the same distance.

Still working. We toyed with the idea of going to the States, Spain, Thailand or the Philippines but in the end, decided to stay put in Qingdao and relax. Whatever money we would have spent on a holiday is going to be spent anyway: a new coat for the GF, a pair of socks for me; a new laptop for the GF, a cordless mouse for me; a range of Clinique facial and skin care products for the GF, a pack of disposable BIC razors for me. So, yeah. Things work out in the end...
Ha ha. Aside from the above, I'll be going to Russia early next month to work on the Sochi Games. 16-hour days for three weeks or at least until we get past the elimination rounds at hockey. So we decided it'd be best just to chill in China beforehand. And spend a little dough. (Tired already just thinking about the shopping...)
Heading to Jeju and Seoul for 10 days on the 30th, it's going to be colder up there than here in Shanghai, beats me though cos the tickets were cheap
I want to explore whole China I have time but no money what should I do
DrMonkey:
Travel by bus or train is cheap. Night train save you one night at the hotel. Many places have guest houses with dorms, 70 rmb for one night. Food can be cheap. With a bit of elementary vigilance, traveling in China is fairly easy and safe ;)
royceH:
Zafar, old mate....I'll give you a tip just this one time...no charge. If you've seen anything in China, you've seen it all. I kid you not.
In Cambodia now (3 weeks total).
manasyt:
No driving...buses and bike for short trips... Phnom Penh sucks...Kampot, Battambang, Kampong Cham, amazing!!!
I'll be going to the Yuanyang rice terraces here in Yunnan. Bought tickets and booked a hostel today!
I have 2 weeks to try catch the biggest fish in the local muddy pond. I will use beer as bait.
10 days until my exit to Philippines for 15 days ..feb 6-23.. believe me I need it ...going nuts here....I love it, but gotta go.....http://wowbantayan.com/wowhome/..... and I will be fishing and hopefully snorkel/diving. only issue is getting to the airport on time and oversold cheap seats.
BrendanE:
Where you going man? Seems a lot of us are making the trip.
