Q: Have you tried learning any non-Mandarin or non-"Standard" Mandarin dialects/languages?

I used to live in a city in Guangxi province called Liuzhou, where the dialect was a rough-sounding hybrid of Zhuang and Cantonese but was still effectively based on Mandarin. I tried to learn some just for fun as it would often get me free beer from the locals! Some of the differences include the 2nd and 4th tone being switched around and the "J" sound being pronounced like a hard "G."

I'm well aware that each city/town/village has its own dialect, and I'm wondering if any of you have bothered to learn them. What have been your experiences? What are they like?

I learned Cantonese the easy way - stuff your mouth full of rice and then scream Mandarin. Seems to work.
