Q: A Hitchhikers Guide to Galaxy Where the Chinese Mind Is?
OK, I'll ask a serious question because I need more than a translator or a Chinese language teacher.
How do I fully understand the Chinese mind?
I just don't understand how they act or think many times. People are people right? Then as I hear too often"why?" do I not understand them. What makes them tick?

We had some free time in class this week, so for fun, I decided to bring out the Chinese Zodiac and the Western Horoscope. The task was to compare both and see which one more accurately described them, which one did they like more and why.
They all got excited and were delighted with the exercise. So, I ask them their birthday and that is when trouble began.....
Me: When is your birthday?
Student: Pardon?
Me: When is your birthday?
S: I dont understand.
M: When were you born?
S: I cant catch you。
M: On what day were you born.
S: What do you mean?
M: 什么时候 是 你 的 生日？(Shenme shihou shi ni de shengri?) when is your bithday?
s: (to his/her seat partner): Bu dong, ni mingbailema? (I dont understand, do you?)
Me: *Whimper.....*
This went on with almost ALL the students.....

What involves cooperation between Chinese all to often starts and ends in mutual misunderstanding
maybe there is nothing that could be understood.

I read some articles about Face, Confucius, Chinese thinking last night, still not enough, but I did get something from it.
I figured one thing out last night. Chinese walk about 2/3 my walking speed. I have to drag my feet to walk this slow, it can be a minor struggle, and if I'm walking to get some where I have to weave in and out of everyone. I walked to my Gfs last night, about 5 kms, she was out, walked home but took a long detour to look for a place. In the heat and humidity, by the time I got home I was walking like a local, maybe even slower.
