Yes, going to Hong Kong and back will count as leaving China and re-entering it.  So if you have a 6 month double-entry visa that allows you to stay 3 months at a time, this will work for your visa.

Many expats call it a "visa run".  I did it many times during my early days in China.

If it is just a matter starting the second visa period, then Macau can also be used. I do not think you can apply for a new visa in Macau, but can be used as variation if you prefer gambling over big city shopping. The Guangzhou-Zhuhai railroad takes you straight to the Macau border.

Thanks for answering. i need to get Hong Kong visa but i got no sponsor ,i called to Hong Kong representative office Beijing they said i should directly fill the form(given on website) and post it to Hong Kong immigration office that will take about 3-4 weeks minimum to get Hong Kong entry permission.   i am just afraid if i could not get Hong Kong permission i will lose the hotel booking money in Hong Kong....Hotel are very expensive not less than 900 RMB per night.

Did anyone applied Hong Kong visa before and how to pay visa fee when i didn't open a bank account in China?

My visa will expire in April 16 but i want to manage this thing now. Please someone advise me the best way to make process smooth and effective.
