I stayed at the Guilin Backstreet Youth Hostel. It was cheap and clean and I met some other travellers from around the world there which was fun. The hostel had all the basic facilties like private bathrooms and 24 hour hot water. It also has a cafe/bar area which was good for socialising and they had a decent selection of Western and Chinese food, including vegetarian dishes. The location was good too, right in the city centre.

You can find more info on this hostel and contact details at

Or you can book via hostels.com here: http://www.hostels.com/hostels/guilin/backstreet-youth-hostel/50871

A: Chinese are generally pretty tolerant friendly and accepting whatever
A:Chinese are generally pretty tolerant friendly and accepting whatever foreigners do.  I spent 15 years in China but I wouldn't say there are that many don'ts....Don't assume that many people speak English though and learn some Chinese. Don't speak much about politics unless you want to praise Chinese system.  -- Natalie363
