Q: How to block WeChat?
Does anyone know what ports I would need to block in my router to kill WeChat?
(side question, does anyone know of a router that can detect the presence of a MIL and activate port-blocking?
Edit: For this to work, the router must block WeChat, this way the phone will automatically connect to Wifi, thus the data connection will not be active. Thus no WeChat traffic will get through.

It's pretty easy to stop a MIL with a firewall. But it has to be an actual wall made of fire.
How do you get WeChat?
If you must download it from the Internet (as Skype, FrostWire), then just delete the file from your puter.
I have Mac with Safari (no Windows), so I don't need to block anything 'unwanted'.

I am not sure, how wechat works. I assume, you must download the driver to your laptop, same as with Skype.

We Chat is a phone app, not a computer one. You can use it on the comp but you gotta scan a code on the computer using your phone, which will communicate with one of their servers and let you in or something.
The woman is probably using a wireless connection via her smartphone to use Wechat, so "deleting a program" isn't an option unless he can just Jank her phone away.

I have a remedy that I use when the SIL and MIL get too loud when they visit - I connect my speaker to my iPod and I select "Ace of Spades". They now know that if they hear Lemmy, they have been too loud!!!

she is probably connecting with wi-fi to your router, so somebody has given her the password you must have to connect to it.
just look at your router 192.168.0.1.... and find a list of things that connect, which should be any wireless PC's and mobiles.
just block her phone from connecting!
you can connect to your WiFi router from comp, check the bottom sticker on router. than in web browser type the address you see on the sticker, as 168.192.1.1 And it will load admin page. type in us username and password, mostly I'd admin, admin if no one changed it before. you will be in the router system, will ne Chinese. find ' filtering ' option asks you may type in MAC addresses or just LAN addresses.of your devices, you want allow to use your WiFi. when done all other devices have to be manualy added to the List with same above procedure or have no access to internet. in the same system, you can also change the password for the WiFi. which is easier way, but once your wife know this, she will Gove to MIL, so...

if you block wechat its more or less the same as if you just change the passwort to your wifi.
anyways what does it help if you block wechat in your home? she still can use it on her phone internet

agreed, its useless man, if you block wifi it wont deter a chinese person at all. Theyll just use data.
Or, you can man up and tell her not to do that in your house. If you let them walk all over you, bully you, control you, they will. Just politely explain that it annoys the f**k out of you and please don't do that when you and I are both here.
Eventually she might even respect you.
i have a genius solution for your scan. my girlfriend's friend is addicted to the talk feature on wechat and is glued to her phone. one night, she left her phone at the table while eating so i put tiny little pieces of junk inside her phone's microphone... the tiny tiny hole at the bottom... she wasn't able to use the talk feature for about a month！ granted, she couldn't make phone calls either...
