Does anyone make use of an electric bike for short runs?
No,they're banned here so it's bus or metro for me!
I usually catch the bus in Shenyang or at times use the subway. Often a friend will give me a ride in their car and if the walk is less than 30mins or so and it is not winter I will walk. Even though the taxis are pretty cheap by Australian standards I avoid them unless I am in a hurry or if the weather is very cold or heavy rain.
I just prefer to travel like a local (not a rich local) and experience the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Even if at times it is frustrating with a bit of push and shove I just go with the flow.
When I have visited Beijing and Shanghai I found the subways to be an excellent way of getting around. In Beijing I spent a few weeks there and I saw everthing I wanted by using the subway except the Great Wall and to get ther I used a local bus.
The trick is to try and avoid peak hours on the subway or buses.
Ebikes are also banned here in Xiamen, but that doesnt stop me or many others from using one. I have lived in 5 cities and couldn't imagine life without an ebike...
P.S. Njord when I was in GZ, i noticed many people have ebikes. The batteries are smaller and look like a back seat, if I had stayed there longer, I would have bought one...
There are some floating around and in certain districts they are everywhere but where I am (Tina He) they're pretty much nowhere to be seen even the bicycles that look like bikes but have the hidden batteries, if the police see you moving and not peddling they're stopping you... Hell when I first moved here there was a guy ripping around on a quad! Now, no way!
