I have some friends coming to visit in a coupe of weeks. One is allergic to gluten and the another is lactose intolerant. How to cope?? Does any one know of foods/ dishes that are an unexpected no no. I mean I'll be able to recognise the obvious ones, but my gluten free friend says it is sometimes in sauces. Nightmare!
Does anyone have the allergies? How do you cope? Tricks of the trade you can pass on.
Also does any one know how to say these in Chinese, I mean my Chinese is OK but I don't know the specifics surrounding allergies.
Thanks. Really don't want my friends to end up in hospital because I've accidently poisoned them.
Gluten is basically impossible to avoid in China (unless you do the cooking yourself). Most dishes in restaurants contain gluten.
Fortunately, your friend's gluten allergy is probably imaginary. Claiming to have a gluten allergy has become trendy in recent years. Much the same as lactose intolerance. I doubt either of your friends would notice anything wrong if they unknowingly ingested gluten or lactose.
Tell your friends that there are better ways to get attention or make people find them interesting. Like joining a society or something.
Scandinavian:
yeah. I always sit and whish for more gluten-allergic friends because the friends I have are so boring and free of allergies

Sort of helpful advice. I would say that my friend who is allergic to gluten is really allergic. It has put her in hospital. So I really need to know how to help her out.
But, if everything has gluten in, maybe we will have to cook at home a lot.

There are no unexpected no no's.
