Q: How do you find the Chinese Food? Does Anyone has problem after eating outside?

For the first year in China, I didn't eat much outside. I preferred to cook myself and freed my kitchen with Chili, Soya Sauce, Vinegar and MSG. I even avoided using much of the oil. My choice of food were simple easy cook: boil everything in a pot, add some salt and olive oil and eat. Or, Red Lentil soup as a protein source either brought from outside China or bought on taobao. I could not find nice bread ( i mean brown bread). Simple Sphaghetti and tuna fish were also my first choice. I am addicted to milk and drink directly from the pack all the time.

After one year, I started to eat outside with my Chinese colleagues and slowly liked the Chinese food. After almost two years I eat mostly outside with my colleagues and eat whatever they order. But the problem is that whenever I eat outside, next day my body goes rampant. I faced severe problems when I had to travel outside the workplace and never forget to carry 2-3 packs of tissue papers. Then I guessed that this may be the reason why China has so many toilets built everywhere in the city. Now a days, at least one day before my planned travel I stop eating outside as I am afraid of previous experiences.

When I see my colleagues or other chinese munching foods swimming in Chili, Fat, Vinegar (whatever mixed there) I bit my tongue and ask myself: "Does Chinese people also have same problem like me? Does any foreigners also faced similar problems when they eat local food outside?" "Is there any medicine that I can take mainly when I am traveling and free myself from nervousness of eating out?"

I thought I will adapt to it but failed.

I love the food and must have a good constitution as I have only had one slight dose of sickness. Even then it may have been a stomach bug picked up by other means as none of the people with me when I ate that day became ill.

Haven't shat a solid one since I got here six months ago. Sometimes it's worth it, other times it's not. Don't eat anything from outdoor stalls at all anymore. Doesn't help. The food's just sloopy-crap-inducing. Keeps me thin.

I have never had food poisoning in China (only once in my life), but if I don't eat a lot of protein, yes, I often get the runs. The trick is to eat plenty of protein, maybe a lot of meat, this should help you. The food with a lot of oil seems to be the worst.

A: No, it's not allowed to work under RP at 2nd job! I'd say, Z visa
A:No, it's not allowed to work under RP at 2nd job! I'd say, Z visa/RP sponsor can have an objections to your part-time job. I did the same at my English teaching in China and elsewhere, butT ... I casually mentioned at my prime job, some kindergarten or another school asked me to work with them part-time. Then, my Q: "Is that permitted?" ...  Answer from RP sponsor was always "Yes, but you can't be late or miss the classes at our school ..." with my reply: "No, our work schedule has a priority, and I'll arrange classes at kindergarten only in my free time." When I cleared that, I was undertaking any extra teaching hours at other schools and private students in my free time.Sometimes, teachers at my prime job asked me if I'm willing to have some extra classes elsewhere.I accepted after the talk with School's principal. I suggest, you test the felling at your Z/RP sponsor and once you see they don't object, you can work at 2nd job. Keeping your 2nd job as a secret from your employer won't work, 'cause you're laowai and Chinese know exactly what you do in your free time. However, despite your employer's agreement for extra work, you are still in violation of Chinese Labour law, and even if your sponsor agrees to your extra work, you can still get in trouble, because it's clearly written (somewhere ... ) that under Z/WP, one can work only at the Z-sponsor and nowhere else. Penalties ... I'd say, there won't be any warnings and you'll be required to exit China in short Exit time.It never happened to me, so I can't really advice how is when manure hits the fan ...  -- icnif77
