Q: How does sending and receiving an email work in China?

I was in the 'print store' half an hour ago, and I asked them to scan two documents and send files to my email address. I was observing whole procedure till 'send an email' button was clicked. In other words, I saw girl in the store scan docs. first and then send them to my email address.

However 30' later, email sent from the 'print store' still didn't arrive to my email box.

Same happened a month ago, and I returned to the shop, and ask her to send files again. I received both her emails an hour later, after she clicked 'send' button second time on her puter.

My apartment is some 150m away from the 'print' shop. Where did email go? Still nothing in my email box 45' after 'send' button was clicked.

I'm not happy with 'TIC' explanation. It must something else....

'add-it': email sent around 5:45pm arrived to my email box at 7:04pm.

I have been sitting in video conferences to the UK when the guy sitting beside me in China sent an email to share data. The UK guys got it instantly, the rest of us in China got it 8 minutes later.

I am sure it just comes down to how it is routed. It might go round the world a few times, bounce off a few satellites etc before it makes it 150 yards down the road.

Also, what is your refresh set to on your account? Maybe the senders account holds it till a set time interval to send it? Some older email programs have the send/receive button. Maybe they pushing the send button is not enough.

I usually don't follow/time email sending, but here I did, because a month ago, I had to return to the shop, and ask her to send it again.

I have Yahoo email with USA address opened in 1997, but still I wasn't thinking mail goes to USA first and then back to China.

I always thought email isn't much different than phone call...

hotmail is the worst...  often a day before I get an e-mail sent to myself...  while it is my go to email.....  it does have its issues....  tough to change after 20 years. This is not a Chinese phenom, IMHO...

your e-mail server or theirs could be the culprits to destroy..... do not believe it is a China issue

Set up a Chinese email account (qq, 163, whatever) and use that in China. Only Chinese email servers will receive email quickly in China. Use your normal email address outside of China.

icnif77:

Yeah, you know it wasn't I suffered much because...It happened second time, and I was wondering if anybody knows anything about that 1h email traveling in China.

I had Release letter and another doc. connected to FEC or cancelation something, and new school wanted to see it asap. Then, it took me almost two hours after I got docs. to send them to new employer.

Now, them are wooden beyond...'we'll show you the Contract after we see Release letter...' what is impossible request, because you can't quit the job, if you didn't sign new Contract before...' and 'we'll purchase plane ticket Zhengzhou - Guiyang but we want to see Release letter...' and similar. So I was kind of in hurry to send them Release letter, which wouldn't arrive to my box. That's a story behind my Q here.

Because, after you hit the 'send to email' button, the files have to rest for a bit, because that's really hard, taxing work.

Then they spent about 20 minutes checking wechat for the latest comments to their moments post, followed by about 15 minutes of selfies, which then had to be PSed and then uploaded.

Following this, the files needed to take a look on Taobao for the latest iProduct that they're saving for, seeing if the price has gone down 1 or 2 mao.

It's only after finally getting bored of all that that the email would finally bother doing what it was supposed to do - get to your inbox.

icnif77:

Yeah, that might be too! Windows OS. You know, I pay 2 Rmb for scan, and leaving smiling, girl smiles too...Then, I came home, undress and open my puter. Nothing yet! Waiting half an hour, get dressed again, pissed a bit 'cause I am thinking she didn't send it.

Back in store, I am going 'meiyou'. Do it again, please.

Return home, I open my puter with shoes still on. I'm not undressing, 'cause I might have to go out again/soon.

'nothing'. Then, and hour later both emails with files sit in my box.
