Victoria:  To "date" is normally used when two friends or persons who are acquainted do go out together for dinner, or dance, or movies, or to a bar, etc.  If neither is engaged or married, it is perfectly OK to do so, there is no commitment, so no "social rules" are broken".

Now, if one is married or engaged, and tries to do so, then it sorts of stops being "dating" and the word used is to have an "affair", since the one unfaithful has only one thing in mind, to bed (or have sex) with the other one.  

So, if your question refers to unattached males, then it is perfectly legit to have as many dates as you can manage.  Now, if you enter into a commitment or relationship, then you can not expect faithfulness if you are not giving it.

You mentioned the word "lover".  In China, many Ladies use that word in ads requesting husbands.  That is the wrong word to use.  A lover is a person with whom you become intimate without marriage.  Is like "friends with benefits".

By the way, this is only my opinion, I am sure some will disagree with me and my understanding of words.  In my way of thinking, I can not request or demand what I am not willing to give.  

Victoria, I knew very faithful and loyal men, and I know men who have several girlfriends (and some have a wife). I also know some who are doing it behind their woman's back, and I know some who they havent made that commitment to each other.

I know women that do the same as the men above.

I think your question is too general and broad to answer. It isn't ALL of men (or women).

Having many lovers is very interesting at a certain age..

after getting married.. its difficult... the enjoyment from it is not worth the trouble of managing many.... 

also you understand that all girls body are similar... only mind is different... so you can easily satisfied with just your wife.... provided that your chose the correct wife suiting your mind of relationships including sex..

Thiis question shouldn't be directed at foreign guys. Your negative experience with 2 guys shouldn't characterize foreign men. It's just as common with the locals here. There is no right answer to this question.

Yeah cos its only foreigners that date lots of girls.  right,  chinese would never do such a horrible think.   open your eyes and grow up love.  you've had a bad experience but let me ask you,  why did you go out with a foreigner in the first place?  something wrong with chinese men maybe?

Vicky: i don't have sex with  many women at the same time unless they are just sexual partners. but think about what you mean by dating. getting to know a few ladies until you find the right one to be in a relationship with id dating. a relationship is a relationshion as the dude said on your other post, we tend to "date" more than one at a time until we find the right one. usually no sex is involved. but when you choose the right one you let the others go. but you have to understand dating does not exist in china so must learn the ins and outs of dating. do not give your heart so easily. 

also people: don't knock  vicky we 've all used this site to vent about the actions of chinese. she is obviously going through some things or is a new bread of "wumaos" (NOT CLAIMING TO BE A FOREIGNER) but i believe from her tone she is legit.

If you mean dating, actual dating, then yes, it is ok to date several people at once. But once someone is in a relationship, they should only be with that one person (there are exceptions which I won't go into here). Of course there will be guys who like to have relationships with multiple women at the same time. But guess what? Back home, us "foreigners" don't like it either. We look down on those kinds of guys. If I found out a guy was cheating on me, I would leave him. It has nothing to do with a guy (or girl's) nationality. There are many loyal men from where I live. Maybe you are more likely to run into foreigners that are "players" here in China, but go to any foreign nation, you will find a lot of good guys, and there are some here in China as well. You can't tell from the outside if a person is good or bad, so get to know him before you have a relationship.

Well, to technically answer the question....the answer is evolution

In the animal world, vertebrates such as ourselvs (and in particular, mammals), to keep the species going, it only takes 1 male... and preferably lots of females. After all, the male can impregnate lots of females to make babies - but women can only have 1 pregnancy at a time (usually... 'pregnancy' doesn't just mean 1 child, btw).

So, the males are biologically engineered towards trying to get as many females pregnant as they can... and to be the alpha. The alpha is the one with the best genes to keep the species going - the fittest, the strongest, the... whatever is needed.

The female, OTOH, needs the best match for her eggs (the alpha, if she can get him!) And, she also needs the one that will protect her offspring (and her) the best (again, the alpha). So, she will hang out for the best, and usually make the males fight over her (whoever wins must be stronger, and therefore, more likely to produce better offspring).

Now, this is the most important bit....

Humans are animals!!!!

NO amount of culture or history will change that fact... and so, humans all over the world will behave this way! All countries, both genders!
