I have studied this phenomenon quite extensively in my time in China, and I have determined that China goes through roughly 8.8 forests per year to supply their chopstick and toothpick demand.

But, they plant a baby sapling that will take hundred of years to grow back for every big tree they cut so it's okay la!
I read somewhere, they make toothpicks out of the live forests ... they come back to the same tree after 20 years or so, and cut the new branch for the chopsticks.
That is utmost diversified ... process.
How many pints can you score per day?
There is a factory in the state of Georgia that makes chopsticks, but they usually sell them to Japan, maybe they have expanded, this was 10 years ago. I'm sure China has to import some and does not have enough wood supply to meet demand, unless they use bamboo.
While significant an even more significant question is how many trees had been cut down under the name of industrialization and modernisation. Where they once stood are buildings, schools, factories......etc. They are gone permanently.
The commies Chinese, filled with hatred for evil capitalists, colonialists, biologists, all from the evil West bark, "you went through the same phases yourself, you are still around, you tell us trees and lakes are important, you no good intentions, you want us to remain backward......".
True, developed countries went through those phases. Take America as an example as the two countries have similar physical sizes. When the Yankees went through those phases the entire America had a population roughly of today's Beijing. The technology back then was nowhere near today's. There is utterly no comparison.
The Chinese's environment is in a complete mess, this their government covers up to present a strong China look--lying propaganda to create the illusion of a great future for their youth.
The real GDP growth rate of China which some call green GDP, subtracting environmental costs from the GDP much like you how you get to the bottomline of a P/L, has been in the negatives for over ten years. This of course you have never heard reported in China.
The Chinese ask, "so what about YOUR green GDP?" Not much (negligible) difference from the GDP as pollution has been kept to a minimum.
Money you can print, trees, the way China destroys them are irreversible. They are literally cutting their oxygen out, as simple as that. This is one of the reasons the Chinese are doomed --- the trees say so.
Any recollection of photosynthesis, that high school biology class, Mr. Xi?
