Q: How much is the compulsory insurance that required for a residence permit? (Hangzhou)
My school have told me that I have to pay for 'compulsory insurance' in order to obtain my working visa, which is not a problem because it is compulsory. They told me in February that the cost would be 1530 元 but now they're telling me it's actually 3000元. As they are crooked (like a lot of companies) they don't have receipts for the insurance so I was wondering if anyone has an idea of the cost? (I just need a heads up before I do battle with them) Maybe it varies place to place (maybe even job to job) but a rough idea would be a start. If you live in Hangzhou it should be the same cost for me, right?
My contract is a normal one year contract.

The only "compulsory" insurance I am aware of in order to work in China is the health insurance coverage, and to my knowledge, in many schools is fully funded by the employer, and not one cent charged to the employee. If I were you, I will, in a discrete way, ask fellow coworkers how much they pay, if anything, for the insurance.
You may be in for a surprise do.
You've been played. The compulsory insurance must be paid by the employer, all extended insurance is up to the employee. Do not let them make you pay. If your contract does not say the school or company provides the insurance that only covers emergencies and death, the contract is not legit. Or really are any contracts legit in China?
Do not ask for a reciept, ask for the invoice with the Tax id number
