Q: How much does a taxi cost in your city (starting price + oil surcharge)?
Beijing's oil surcharge just went up to 3 RMB a week or two ago, bringing our total "base price" to 13 RMB.
I've seen on the site that several other cities recently upped their oil surcharge too.
How much does it cost in your city?
Do you still consider it "cheap" to take taxis everywhere?
Just curious...

The flagfall is six quai and then I think it goes up about one quai per kilometre... dead cheap. The only reason we don't take taxis constantly is that there's not enough of them and standing on the side of the road for 20 minutes is tedious.
5 in the day, 6 at night.
Taxis are by no means cheap when you're used to buses.
In Ningxia same as others 5 day, 6 night. Same Chinese guy told me that gas prices went up at the end of February and alot of cities will eventually get a increase of about 2 quai start rate. But dead cheaper still than back home.
In Nanning, the basic rate is 7 Rmb, plus 1 Rmb fuel surcharge. But some drivers now are begining to charge 2 Rmb on top. Of course, the jiao is in their favor all the time.
In Shenzhen it is 10 to start and 4 more for gas surcharge, in the city proper. After 11pm it goes up to 13
Outside the city it is 6 plus 3, and 7.20 after 11pm.
6 + 1 here in podump. Never had a taxi fare more than 15rmb...
What drives me mad is the fact that one of my usual travels is exactly 2.9km (10 yuan), but sometimes the driver does that "What? I didn't hear you say stop OH LOOK 3KM NOW I HEARD YOU LOL" trick and it jumps to 14 yuan. Makes me boil inside.

I freaking hate that too! I always repeat five times to stop here, but of course they never hear that. Bordel!

That's when I take a picture of their driver's license, and refuse to pay them.
Zhuhai 10kuai starting fee, includes the first 3Km, then 6 jiau for each 250meter thereafter. no surcharge
Starting fee is 13 kuai in Beijing and it goes up 2.3 every km or something. If the driver drives you a certain distance you have to pay for the oil surcharge only.
He he, I said: "oil"!!
Dongguan: many private car owners share their car with passengers. The price is less than a taxi. Unfortunately most of them don't speak English.
And fortunately, I'm one of the few who does speak English. If need a drive to or from airport or hotel etc, call me: 13751361427, or add my skype: henry.yuan79

I destroy black taxi drivers who cheat. Just a heads up that you may some day get on the wrong foreigner's side.
3 RMB in my wife's hometown.
4 RMB in my old working city.
