Q: How often does the president or government official change in China?

I'm not sure what the time in office is like for government officials and the president. Do you know if there is a certain amount of time that someone with that rank gets to hold onto it? I think I have heard of two presidents so far and I heard they elect those high ranking officials through a committee of some sort. Anybody know facts about this?

The President of China's position was created in 1992, and came into effect in 1993.  The Chinese President is elected by the National People's Congress in accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution.  In fact, there is only one candidate in these elections,  and he is recommended by the Presidium of the National People's Congress.

The President of China is also the General Secretary of the Communist Party at the same time, and his/her position as President is mostly a decorative one according to many.

He can serve two consecutive terms of 5 years each, as President, then must step down after a total of 10 years.
