Q: How would you survive if you were bed riddin in China?

Yesterday I hurt my back and now stuck in bed for a few days, my dear wife is looking after me as I can't even get to the wc by myself. All I can do is lay here and bother you lot with posts and answers .think yourself lucky it is not September yet.
What would happen to you if this happened in China? Who would feed you ?,who would look after you? Who would sing Soft Kitty?

It is a good question, because most of us are in our full health and it is not something that most ex-pats seem very concerned about. I thought a lot about this question last year and as i am without a significant other, I shuddered at the thought of most of my work colleagues even knowing i was unwell. Thankfully I have more of a back-up system now, but (touch wood) hopefully i'll survive until i am back home. If there was a chance it was more than just a passing illness, i'd risk traveling home. Hopefully you'll recover soon !

Hope you'll feel a lot better soon, phil!

I was bed-ridden for almost a month in China the third time I went. Knocked the hell out with the worst sickness I've ever had. I think it was Malaria or something... my wife took care of me, though.

All that time, her friends were saying "leave him, he can't even take care of himself." I went 7 days without eating, and slept 99% of the time... not much I could do while projectile vomiting, experiencing bouts of projectile diarrhea, shaking uncontrollably,  aching all over, etc. Dunno what I had, but that was some crazy shit...

Probably would've died if she didn't take care of me and sing to me. Thanks, honey!

Aw, get well.

That's a huge reason I have room mates (the big one is cost of living). There are always people who at least know if I'm on my deathbed or not. I remember one point in Beijing, I caught some kind of megabug. I had a huge migrane & was completely exhausted. I ended up sleeping for 36 hours straight before dragging myself up. My entire strategy for saving my skin if I thought my life was actually in danger was to come stumbling out of my room and collapse in front of my traumatized room mate.

I hope my wife would take care of me. The big problem is that she is not strong enough to move the to the bedroom, so I would need to be sofa-ridden instead.

I do have medical insurance that would pay for a stay in a hospital, don't know why I'd go there. Most things can be treated by just drinking water at home instead of getting filled with fluid drips and other garbage at the hospital.

Some physiotherapy might do you good. Be aware that most massage places actually are not capable of doing anything useful and might do more harm than good.

Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks for all the well wishes
Thankfully I am home in Australia so health care is free and easy to get.. I am taking inflammatory tablets and resting which is about all I can do at this time .I really need to start exercising to strengthen my mussels in my core . I can't imagine what it would be like to be in a apartment in a Chinese city on my own with nobody to help me.

I'd stay in bed until I got better or just died. I got really sick, high fever, hadn't been that sick in years, told my GF to leave me alone and just slept.

Ice your back, maybe you can talk your wife into doing it and giving you a massage.

Getting seriously sick or injured was my biggest fear in going to China, that and meeting a cobra.

A couple of months ago I hurt my back and looking for a massage in the kind of clinic that can be found in every street, I got an acupuncture treatment. This really worked miracles! If anyone asks me to say something nice about China this is what I'll mention. Don't have much experience with TCM otherwise, but acupuncture is one of their great accomplishments.

I would. I'd just have an excuse to call for more massage girls.

Uuuhhh, I just had chills running down my spine.

Imagine have a bad back and laduzi at the same time and living in an apartment with a squatter.

Ships log Day 3
My family has forsaken me and I am left to lay in this bed with only a pyhco duck to taunt as entertainment. My last meal was brought to me by a pigme (4year old child) about 5 hours ago .My greatest accomplishment to date is going to the toilet with out help although the chief of the local people was yelling about my inaccurate aim at the thrown of thought ..
The only comfort I have is knowing that I will eventually get off this island and it will not be in the wilderness you call China,
PPS
You better hope the battery goes flat on this tablet before the 1st of September and the add campaigns start

A:Good question!  I'd say, if you study at Uni in China beside working full-time as an E.T. with Residence permit, you don't interfere with your full-time employment. It's your free time and you can do anything you want, with respect to the Chinese laws and customs. Have a look at terms of Z visa/Residence permit and ... ".. you cannot work (and earn monies!) with another employer ..."That's all it is! Your RP sponsor title is written on the RP stamp in your passport, I think. It's in Mandarin, so I've heard about that from someone ...At I.D.-ing by cops, they know where you work and than more details about you are just a phone call away ... and it happened in person ... LOL ... during the day-time stroll through Wulumuqi, Xinjiang, 2012/13 semester. Now under RP, you're free to surf Internet, jog, ... and study, too. I suggest, you look and ask at the Uni, you plan to study in the future. Have a detailed look at requirements for studying and attending chosen Uni.Good luck! -- icnif77
