Q: I did a runner now I want to come back

I was teaching in China for about six months and left and did a runner. I did have a foreign expert permit and a residence permit. Now, I have to enter China on the first week of August, but my old residency permit doesn't expire until the 22nd of August. My question is, can I enter China on my resident permit that expires on the 22nd of August. Or, has it been canceled when I did the runner? Thanks!

More than likely been cancelled by your former employer.

I would advise you not to take the risk.

What is so important that you would want to come back after doing a runner anyway?

In theory, your residence permit will expire if you stop working for the employer that you have.  In practice, they would have to notify the local PSB and request cancelation of permit.  Some do, some do not bother.  But if I were you, I would not take a chance.  Get a tourist visa if you want to come into China so badly.
