Brought up by the question "Is Indian people easy find job in China?"
I have a Master's Degree, no accent whatsoever (Born in America), and seven years experience teaching English as a foreign language.
The only thing is I am a Muslim woman and wear a headscarf (Hijab) to cover my hair. I look like a white American though. I have blue eyes, blond eyebrows, and incredibly pale skin.
Will employers not hire me because of the headscarf, or will they be willing to let it go?
EDIT: I don't wear the black burqas or fully cover my face/body. Just my hair, and I do wear colorful outfits, but they are all long-sleeved with long pants.
dear , dont worry too much. When you in china you can wear what you like. but if you wear long black dress like you in your Muslim country, may chinese people will have much more look at you. but anyhow, it will not effect you find a job. you have teach expearence and have master degree ,this will be great help, and if you have ESL or TEFL/TESOL is better for you.
I think in China you will be more American Woman than Muslim Woman.
Muslims do get a bad reputation due to the one sided CCP narrative on "situation" in Xinjiang province. You could look for jobs there actually. 100% of the people from Xinjiang I've met have been nice, and a while back I spent an entire day with a group of high school students from Xinjiang. Very nice and well educated people, spoke The Queens English and was knowledgeable about the world.
Scandinavian:
oh. A thing I might find a bit offensive on behalf of the Muslims is things like, here in town there is a restaurant simply called "Muslim restaurant" it happens to be really great food, but the naming of the place I find wierd.
Don't worry , not problem , i knew many Muslim girl wear Hijeb work in China , ALLAH with you
White skin, AND some ethnic/cultural headgear? it would remind every chinese of the ethnic minorities they see on talent shows every evening. "they're so good at singing." my boss would probably fire me to make room for a crowdpleaser like you! be prepared for the unexpected question: "can you sing or dance?" they'll drag you onto a local talent show given half the chance. short answer: fear not, you'll have your pick of teaching face jobs.
I live in Xinjiang and women who don't look Chinese but at the same time wear a head scarf are ubiquitous. They, like yourself, are Muslim.
And, helped in no small way by generous gov't financial assistance, more than 50% of restaurants out here are owned by Muslims. Getting a job in one would be easy, if that kind of thing is up your alley.
And as long as you give Urumqi a wide berth the air is fresher out here.
Better food too.
