I know paying for everyone is considered a face-gainer, but I don't care about face.
Sometimes I feel like I'm expected to propose to pay.
I've gone dutch before other times someone takes the bill. Depends on the context and how generous/cheap you're feeling.
For friends, yeah no problem. Just explain to them that you are all such good friends and equals that there is no need for special treatment.
If you are invited, usually the host will pay. If you invite someone, you should expect to pay. Depends on the situation though. If you are going out with coworkers for lunch and you are not senior management (you are "equally ranked" in the company) everyone will usually cover their own cost. If it's close friends, going Dutch is not usually a problem as you can just ask "can we go dutch on this?" - you're out with your friends to enjoy their company, not impress them, plus if you know them well enough, they'll know your financial situation, etc.
