Q: Is it possible to cross into Burma via border at Yunnan?
I think it's time I embark on an adventure, or at least inquire about the possibilities. Burma's high on my list but would love to go via land from Yunnan. Is this possible? Has anyone done this trip?

Yes it's possible. And from what I heard it's sort of easy. You can cross the boarder "illegally" without any passport or custom. Just need to pay a few hundred to get "help" from the locals.
But I think it's very dangerous to go to Myanmar now? They are having wars, and drug dealers. Who knows what might happen there.

That and the Burmese government does not take kindly to those who enter the country illegally, especially if they come from Western countries. My recommendation to him would be "dont do it".
I went to Ruili in the south of Yunnan a couple of weeks ago. The locals here told me that they regularly travel into Myanmar. I have no idea about border control restrictions and visas though.
