13 years 2 weeks ago in Visa & Legalities - China
I have a zed and no degree. I was hired on my resume.

My friend, that means they created a degree for you. Be wary, for this will come back to haunt you. If you leave the city after you finished your contract no problem, if you want to stay at the school no problem, you want to change schools, you will need an exact copy of the fake degree for renewal of your foreign expert cert. If you are in the West of China, you will only be asked to leave the province if your caught, if your in the North East, East, South, they will escort you to the border. I have never thought that you need a degree to teach ESL/EFL, but you had better believe that your Zed was done illegaly" as most things are here". My company couldn't do anything about two great teachers who came in on fake degrees, a school got them the Zed visa, one parent got mad, she called the PSB, two days later they where in Hong Kong.
If a company is willing to hire you, even though you don't hold a degree, then you can apply for a Z visa.
However, the company would certainly have to justify their choice.
For teaching English, it's a bit particular. They are specific requirements such as being a native speaker from a English speaking country and holding a TEFL certificate.
But then, in China, it's often who gets the best connections or who can go over the law. So you still have the chances to get a Z visa.

the first part is BS. You don't really need to be a native speaker to get a Working Visa and expert certificate. True that you do need a TEFL (higher than 40 hrs)
yes, in certain situations (if you are older) you can simply say you lost your degree. especially if you have great qualifications such as business experience
Yes, but not as you think. If the school likes you, they will create a fake for you. All teachers must have a Degree to teach anything including EFL" like it's rocket science yes", that being said, it's not a good idea, that means they own you and treat you as they want. If you change schools in the same province, only the fake created can be used to transfer your Foreign Expert Certificate. If not they will ask you to leave the province, not the country. Anon, I will not say you shouldn't work with out a degree, for so many people do. But as a former Director of Studies and Foreign Affairs, and a current legal advisor, I will say, becareful my friend, and do your homework before letting a school do anything that could endanger your future at which point you would need my employers. Ummm, they're not cheap.
I agree with the above comments, but why would you try to cheat the requirements? Honestly, if you do get a job without the requirements then your wages etc will suffer. One thing you have to be aware of is that everyone knows everything about you because you are a foreigner!

if you let the school make a fake degree you are tied to that school. best not to do it that way and they will cheat you the same way dishonest breeds dishonesty
hello, the situation is different when it comes to native speakers. with a native speaker, the school can get the z visa for you without a degree. but you will need a tesl or it equivalent to get the z visa. but for none natives or near natives mostly Africans, you need a degree and also tesl to get this z visa. hope this answers your question.

Can you tell us why a native speaker would be different from a none native speak if you're at the Labor department trying to get the FEC that allows you to go to the PSB and get the working RP? Everyone needs the degree, yes some have faked their way through.
Its all depends on the school and their contacts. And if they flash a black light over the degree to check if its real or not. I know not all degrees have a seal but they might check. You've got a 50/50 chance.
