Good day!
I working in multinational company and company have units in 55 cities around China. Central office situated in Shanghai. Also have offices in Beijing and Guangzhou, but how I understand they not registered. Have 2 questions:
1. Can its legal working and living in other cities (at South China, because I based here)if my residence permit issued at Shanghai?
2. Can my employer hold my Alien employment permit (brown book) in Shanghai office (its legal??) or employment permit must be in my hands?
Story with employment permit most complicated because last year I be stopped by police few times (on street, railway or bus station, border) and if I not have employment permit in my hands its be a big troubles. Also without employment permit I not transfer any money to my country, what actually I do every month. Company takes my employment permit just few days ago how I renew my residence permit in Shanghai. To my question why it's like this and why I hold this book last year my HR reply what last year its be mistake (they forgot ask me what I need return employment permit to office ) and it’s a "COMPANY RULES" and "NO WAY".
Thanks!

Only if you want to end up in a SAFEA death camp...or worse. I know a guy whose resident permit was issued for Guangzhou, but he was visiting friends in Shenzhen. I guess he looked too business-like because SAFEA agents seized him at once. "This is crap!" he declared in an angry tone.
"You're coming with us." the agent said deviously.
In an instant they were gone, his companions staring mournfully at his now-empty chair and shuddering to think what the future held before finishing their meals.
After he was brought in, they took him to a vast, desolate camp in a cold, damp forest and commanded him to start digging. "Start digging." the agent said commandingly. "What am I digging for?" He asked, with a glimmer of hope in his voice. No answer was to be heard.
After two months of excavation down to 150 feet it was all too clear. He was digging his own mausoleum. "Bummer!" he shouted aloud to no one in particular.
He was never seen again; now no one even knows his story.
