Q: Lost item in Beijing taxi

I left a computer tablet in a taxi in Beijing just before I had to leave for the airport to fly home to Australia. I know the driver's ID number (040990)  and registration plate number (B M 2008) but I don't know how to make enquiries as I speak no Chinese and wouldnt know where to start anyway.  Any advice?

Are you in China or home in Ozz?

If you're home, I'd say forget about it.

If you're in China, ask Chinese for help in your work place.

You could eventually dial SAFEA (Foreign Expert Bureau), and ask them for advice and help.

Enter 'SAFEA' in search above for address and contact numbers in Beijing. I've never contacted Beijing SAFEA, but in other bigger cities, there is at least one English speaker on other side.

Good luck!

Yeah if you're home in Oz forget about it, it's gone. If you're in Beijing you may be able to have a friend or work mate call the taxi company with the details but I really doubt they operate a lost and found dept there.

I think Stiggs is correct. Probably you'd need to call the taxi company before the driver gets off work and finds someone to sell it too.

That being said. We once forgot something in a taxi, I forget, what, I think perhaps some bag with clothes. As we enter our home and realize this, my wife calls the cab company, they say they'll call back. A little while later, 15-20 mins, they call and say the driver is on his way to the far side of town, if it would be OK he got my wifes phone number and then he would call next time he was in the area. The taxi central said that it would be nice of us to pay the man. He called the following afternoon, my wife handed him a 20, but he said it was too much, he only wanted 10 (the starting fee) but after some insisting he took the 20.

Stiggs:

Yes it does happen where people lose a phone, wallet or handbag or something and someone finds it and uses the info in it to track down the owner.

A:Your potential employer is right! Purpose of the Medical exam before granting Z visa is to make sure, you won't be entering China in any abnormal and harmful to others condition.Few days after your arrival to China, you'll be required to complete another ME ... If ME in China will be OK, you'll get a Residence permit stamp into your book some 10-days afterwards. Imagine, you're an employer, who can sponsor my entry and work in China, but after my arrival to China would be found I carry some sickness, which would prevent Chinese .gov to issue a Residence permit. Rule is: Z visa should be converted into Residence permit in 30-days after entry to China.    So, my advice is:"Complete ME in your home country and forward medical results to your employer".Z visa grant will follow shortly afterwards. Employer is not wrong at their demand for the pre-arrival ME from your home country hospital.   -- icnif77
