Q: mandarin versus english
which one is great coz i just read the survey from world linguistic organization and it says that people are more obliged to mandarin and many companies wants their employee who can read and write in chinese......Is the trend for mandarin going so high or is it english has bcome very common language that no body cares to respect except for CHINESE......lol
Yeah, people have been saying that, but when I was in high school people were saying that about Japanese. Anyway, being English speakers living in China, we're covering all our bases.
English has been the dominant global language recently - in that period when worldwide communication was at its height - so now it is generally accepted that if someone takes a foreign language in a non-native English speaking country, then that language will be English. English is compulsory in so many countries around the world, and is the international langauge for business, foreign affairs, aviation, hospitality and other industries. So, 'requiring' English is no longer that great an issue.
Requiring your new employees to have Putonghua, however, is something that would be specifically requested, as it's less likely that your candidates will have it (except here, of course!)
So, of your 2 choices, it's B - English has become so common that it is no longer specifically requested, it is automatically assumed!
