Does anyone know if you can play foreign server based games in China such as Dayz? As in, can I connect to and play on foreign servers?

Depends on the game, depends on the server, depends on your location, depends on your ISP, depends on the mood of the censors.
The general answer would be: usually, you can, but don't play ping-sensitive games like FPS.
I have been able to play some games online such as Empire total war but not many games work online here. I think games over steam work.
Yeah, me and my buddies got a Steam gaming thing going on.
If you play Pay Day 2, hit me up, or Dead Island Riptide... soon to be Dark Souls II.
We play Rust as well, but not to much as Pay Day 2.

I opened a Steam group "eChinacities" a while ago, hoping to get to get a nice group. So far, there's only me and a certain green guy.
Welcome to join. I also am a fair player of Payday 2. Which is - by the way - very playable from China thanks to a great netcode that pre-charge a lot of stuff.
Robk:
Yeah we all play from China, three of us usually on Pay Day 2 so we need a fourth.
It works fine so long as the host is in China.
xunliang:
Rust works ok does it? Do you use any....v p n ......software when playing games?
Robk:
Depends on the server... some work better with VPNs some you don't need one.
Playing on western servers is possible but not suggested.
