Q: Permanent residency through marriage
I am wondering if anyone here has actually gotten chinese permanent residency through marriage, or actually know someone who has.
I know that theoretically you can, but i have read a lot of expat posts that most applications are rejected. If so, why?

Permanent residency through marriage will work if you buy an apartment (in your name) AND run a big business/work for a multi-national as a senior manager. The dreams for us little guys (especially teachers) is just a dream.

Agree, i have been told same. Only need buy the house and/or own a business. no matter if mine or wife's name on docs. But have to have it. And there is no reason why, just TIC.
Just being married isn't enough. Very few people will/can qualify for permanent residency.
Some of the requirements I know of
* You need to have been living in China for X amount of years, I forget the amount but it's quite awhile
* You'll need to have been on the correct type of Visa's the entire time you were here
* You need to make X amount in salary, I forget the amount but again it's quite a lot. You also have to proove that you've maintained this type of salary for the many years you've been in China
* You need X amount of savings in the bank (again quite a lot)
* You need to own property
* Ideally you need to have a very nice job (which you should if you already meet the finincal requirements) and you need to be able to show you've been able to maintain that type of job while you've been in China
Any little mistake or slip up over the years you'll have been required to stay in China and you'll get denied and have to wait another 5-10+ years to even think about applying again.
I really don't understand why anyone goes through all the hassles of perminant residence in China..... .Really what benefit is there that you get from it, aside from not having to worry about updating Visa's once a year or every couple years. Anyways if you're already that wealthy is it really that much of a headache for you to have to update your visa every so often ?
Could anyone explain to me what the benefits are of permanent residency in China, aside from bragging rights of accomplishing something most people can't ??

a good reason some people are rich or wealthy is that they recognize it is an utter waste of time to go to the PSB office "all the time" to get new visas

In the Czech Republic you can reside temporarily without a visa if you are:
family members of EU citizens if you are not an EU citizen and you hold a permit for temporary or permanent residence in the territory of another Member State and the period of stay not exceeding 90 days (3 months);
family member of an EU citizen, your visa for up to 90 days or a transit visa expired - if you reside in the territory of an EU citizen and length of stay not exceeding 90 days (3 months). Same it works on the other way: You can stay in any other EU country while you stay together with EU citizen and up to 90 days.
The request for a short-term visa for up to 90 days submit as a family member of an EU citizen:
a valid travel document (passport);
document confirming that you are a family member (birth certificate, marriage certificate) - the original or a certified copy or a certified translation into Czech;
photography;
completed form "Application for Schengen visas."
The deadline for replies is a family member of an EU citizen who is not a citizen of the EU, is 14 days from the date of application.
Submission is free.
And there is much more easy things, as residence permit and citizenship-shifting procedure , so I really do not thing I will ever want to hassle for stay in China. I see a big hope for my country and whole Europe. I think is important to go back :-)

And where did you get this information? if you heard it somewhere on the street you should state it. As it is now it looks like nothing but guesses.

@mikah , echinacities ran an article recently on updated requirements for permanent residency.
Getting married to a Chinese national does not give you the right to be a permanent resident in China. It gives you the ABILITY to stay in China more than someone who is not married. Once married you can apply for a family visit visa to be with your family especially if you are over 60.The only way to be a permanent resident is to become a Chinese citizen.Now you are not going to do that.
As someone who owned their own business, had multiple properties, healthy income & savings, Chinese wife, over 6 years of continuous stay time in China and loads of guangxi with the right officers, I was told it was basically impossible. According to my government friends less that 25 foreigners have ever been granted permanent residence status.
But regulations change all the time. So who knows, you might get lucky.
appreciate all the answers. I get the sense that it's almost impossible. But I am wondering if anyone has tried? what's the reason for being rejected?

There doesn't have to be a reason given to be rejected. This is China. They can, and do, make decisions without any logical thought process whatsoever.
It is next to impossible, and I can see absolutely no benefits to it even if it were possible.
