Q: problem with changing my visa...help needed
hello
i came to china with a bad teaching agency that kept me here with no salary and no classes for a long time now
i have a z visa with a resident permit that will expire after 3 months from now
i finally found another company in a completely different field than teaching and they want to hire me
the problem now is that the teaching agency don't want to give me a release letter because it's costing them nothing to keep me here with no work
can the new company just renew my visa?
should i just go back home and apply for a new z visa with the new company? will this be possible without a release letter?
since the new company will register me as something other than an expert teacher can this make things easier for me ?
I'm so desperate and i don't know what to do and i keep reading and reading but still i can't find answers to these questions

Why don't you go to Foreign Expert Bureau in the city you are in, and report School which hired you? You might need Chinese English translator for talk at FEB.
You could also ask for advice at Public Security Office.
If you need to find addresses of both locations, you can ask at any Bank in the city. Find English speaking employee in the Bank, and they will be able to help you with the directions.
not if they are well connected and powerful
that'll be bad to be on bad terms with them
Sorry,i don't know the answer, but probably the others will give you a hand, good luck!
If you no longer work there or you quit, they are REQUIRED BY LAW to give you a release letter. If they won't, you should report this to the PSB - even if they are connected, this is the proper procedure according to the law and will always look better for you, as you are at least trying to do things the way they're supposed to be done.
Usually if you say "I talked to a lawyer and they said you must give me...." they will often just hand it over because they don't want to risk fines or loss of money.
