Hello,
I recently accepted a contract working for university in China but can longer arrive due to a family emergency. The university told me that I can't work in any university in China again because I didn't come. I have the visa in my passport alreayd. My question is, would I be able to apply for another Z-visa again in the future, or will I be denied because I didn't arrive for the first contract? Part of me things the school was just trying to scare me, but I'm not sure. Thoughts?

I'd say, it depends how far Uni went with applying for your Working permit and Invitation letter.
I'm convinced, some FT's record exist at SAFEA, after 1st Foreign Expert Certificate was issued.
Had a thing, when new School knew for happenings at the old school. All details could be also obtained from Principal's phone no. listed on my CV/Recommendation letters, but I think it also might be from SAFEA's record.
I've never violated Contract, so I'm not really sure, if you can expect any 'backfire', because of the Contract disrespect.
SAFEA might or might not have objections on issuing new WP.
I would ask for the info about that straight from the 'dog's mouth'.
I'm thinking, if SAFEA would tell you, 'you can't get new WP', you could present them some proof of your family troubles as cause for Contract disrespect, and reason with them to not deny new WP.
Enter 'SAFEA' in search above for address and contact no. in Province of your first Contract, and dial them for an advice and help.
Good luck!
You don't say whether you actually got issued with the Z visa! Did you apply for it in the Chinese visa office & get it in your passport?
As long as you didn't get a resident permit at the PSB than of course you can, you can always get a new Z visa, you're lucky that it wasn't an RP.
