Yeh, I know, these are supposed to be China related questions, it's just that after 8 years here I couldn't care less to ask any. Not up on current affairs neither, so i'm not able to join in the chatter on the latest highbrow gossip. But I do love a good movie. Watched 'Mean Streets' last night, for the first time. I did not find it 'mean' at all. Just a bunch of guys bitching, saying bad-a-bing a lot and calling each other 'mooks' between the occasional cat-fight, i've had meaner bowel movements, they should've called it 'Gay Streets.' But I did see a great flik recently called 'The Sunset Limited:' Samuel L Jackson and Tommy Lee Jones talking about life and death - all set in one room. Bottle of brandy and a pack of smokes and I could watch that movie over and over again. Already have done.
So waboutchoo? Seen anything worth recommending? Not big on Chinese movies myself and downright bored out of my mind with king fu, but I do like Ang Lee.
Do share.

I saw Life of Pi in China, not bad. Added bonus for you, it's an Ang Lee flick

I saw this too...wife dragged me.... I thoroughly enjoyed it!!!
she also dragged me to a movie that was posted as being an English movie, but it was in Spanish........ the theatre folks didn't know the difference between Spanish and English ......... until I mentioned NADAL, then they sort of got it.Expendables 2. Very funny, especially the Chuck Norris scenes. (BTW, I originally misspelled Chuck's last name and my computer roundhouse kicked me in the face.)
Certainly agree with Xpat John on Expendables 2, played for laughs all the way. Saw the latest Jackie Chan movie last week, a big let down, complete rubbish. For Chinese movies I saw The Flowers of War last year and was quite impressed by that one.
mArtiAn:
Not seen any Jackie Chan's of late but I did like him in 'Forbidden City.' He played an alcoholic immortal. I sometimes if I might not be one of them myself.
Sorry for not getting in touch about that drink. Let me know if you're still up for one.
They are making Robo Cop 4 in Toronto now, can't wait. I like the Batman movies. just watched The Dark Knight Rises, Anne Hathaway is Ok but would rather see Abigail Spencer or Olivia Wilde.
mArtiAn:
Yeh, big fan of the Batman films. Darrrk, like the Alan Moore comics. Christian Blake's growly voice is a bit gay though.
TedDBayer:
Everyone knows Batman is a fag, that once was a popular bumper sticker.
mArtiAn:
Haha, in London 'fag' means cigarette. I'll never forget the looks I got off a room full of yanks in Shenzhen when I asked them if they'd mind me bumming a fag.
just to help with the yellow fever thing, Olivia and Abigail
And if you are looking for a good TV series to watch, I would recommend Sons of Anarchy & Breaking Bad. Both are outstanding.
mArtiAn:
Cheers, i'll look out for those tv shows, that's something I miss, good shows. Not to say there are a lot to miss, most are shite, but Thirty Rock and Big Bang are ones i've only just caught up with lately. I'll look out for those you mentioned.
Not sure about Expendables 2, I saw the first one and it sucked so much arse it might have well have been gay porn, but i'll give it a look.
Speaking of gay porn I picked up a copy of Alien V Predator here some years back and when I looked at the back to see the reviews, no word of a lie, it read; 'A fascinating look at the forbidden love between two young men in the prime of their youths.' Not quite what I was expecting of the Alien franchise, but from a Freudian point of view, quite a poignant statement.
mArtiAn:
Ok John, i've just watched half of Expendables 2, and my god but how does this film blow?
When you suggested watching it I actually thought you were being ironic, but gave you the benefit of the doubt. You seem like a smart guy. I'm not. So what the fuck? Seriously, I mean, Stallone with those shaved eyebrows looks like a drag queen and that Brit actor cannot act. I like him in a Guy Richie movie because he's got a bit of London gangster in him, but otherwise........
And where was Arnie? What a jip?
Chuck Norris should be coaching little league, he's sweeter than strawberries..
Nope, that was a baaaad film. I actually killed myself when I was watching it, it was so bad. I broke an empty beer bottle on my head and sliced my wrists. I hope you're happy now. My boy's gonna grow up without a father because you told me to watch that shitty-arse film. How you gonna live with yourself?
Jeez.

I honestly loved that movie. I couldn't stop laughing at all the stupid jokes and action hero parodies. The absurdity of the movie is what made it great for me. The last movie that made me laugh that hard was called, "Dogma".
