Q: Soooooo...did everyone have a good CNY?

Back in the office today. Urgh...reminicising of the wonderful week I just had in Beijing. Did everyone else have a good week off? Highlights? Lowlights?

I have to say, out by the fourth ring road in Beijing it was pretty amazing watching all the fireworks go off at midnight. But by Feb 4 (fireworks day) I was over it.

I also thoroughly enjoyed being asked for direction by Chinese people in Chinese....clearly I had the Capital city dweller look nailed.

Ask again when it is over..... but so far it hasn't sucked particularly hard.

Hosting rather than being a guest:

Pros:

Don't have to sleep in a tiny bed in a cold room

No travel hell

Got my office and a door that closes

Having an 80+ year old woman sweep the floor is awesome when the MIL is bitching about being old at 55.

Cons:

People sure stay a long time

Some forced activities

People are eating my snacks and drinking my drinks

It seems inappropriate to some to drink a lot... I guess that is their problem

I had a good one.  Two weeks of doing nothing.  Lovely.

I even managed to get sunburned when I went fishinglaugh.  It's been 25 degrees in GZ wink.

Lots of family visited to keep the mother in law busy.

Clean air, no noise and birds singing in the morning laugh.

I played a ton of golden oldies to my 10-month-old boy; got him from crying to sleeping in no time. For a while he only wanted me to hold him and dance with him instead of mommy. I loved it! Then he got the the roseola virus, and needed mommy again. I'm a weekend dad most of the time, so i loved being able to spend nearly 2 weeks with him.

Hey Coin..... you're gunna be a terrific dad.  Just stay in close touch with fatherhood, come hell or high water, and live long enough to rejoice in it.
