Hi
Just a simple question, I want to take my Chinese wife to Hawaii for just 4 days, She's been working for 4 years and owns a car, but not a house, we did marry in China. I'm an American myself.
Will this be hell in a hand basket trying to get her a tourist visa for 4 days?
Also I once read that if your Chinese Wife had a tourist visa it makes it harder in the future to get her a K1 or whatever visa it is to take my wife back to the U.S for good?
Cheers for help.

It should be no difference in whatever road blocks you may find in getting a tourist visa to enter USA for 4 days visiting Hawaii, or entering USA for 30 days visiting different cities in the mainland. The trick for successful results is to prove, beyond an doubts, that she will return to China after 4 days. Make sure that is clearly stated in your visa application, and backed with proof of stated intent. Not owning a home will be a definitely darwback. A son or daughter, even a step one, that stays behind will be a plus.
And for your second question, I see the getting of a tourist visa as a good thing on a K-1 That is a fiancee visa, and you are married already) or an IC-1 or IR-1 (formerly K-3 or close enough married vsa). It will prove to officials that you two are serioously married, and do follow instructyions and respect procedures. I do not see it as a detrimnent at all.
In respect to your question, is it "just hellish for 4 days"? Yes, I would say so. The visa application fee itself is going to run you about 900-1000 rmb, and this is even if they deny the visa. Then, she'll have to go to one of the American consulates for a face-to-face interview. Maybe not a big deal if you live in one of those cities. The good news, if she does successfully get a visa, they will probably give her one valid for a year, multiple entries. My gf just recently successfully got a tourist visa to the US. For us, it was worth it, as I plan on taking her back home for more than just a 4 day vacation

Hopefully for at least a month, from Thanksgiving through Christmas. And then again next year some time.
i was approved for my wife a visa, also going to hawaii for a week, got a deal for airfare, hotel and meals for 33,200 rmb plus 40 dollars each tip per day for 2 days the the tour driver and then the last 4 days own our own.
she had her name added to her parents house, no car , 140000 in the bank, but she had been a student in canada for 6 years and had several entry and exit stamps on her passport, probably helped more than anything else. a history of returning from trips abroad helps a lot.
I heard if you're an American married to a Chinese it will make it 80% Impossible to get her a tourist visa because they think thats why she married you, to live in the U.S, which in turn forces you to get her a Spousal Visa to America if you have 50,000 USD in you account.
But this comes from rumors we read on www.baidu.com from Chinese who had this problem post on a blog back in 2010. Hopefully it is different now.
