Q: Thinking of returning to the UK?

My advice?  Don't bother.  The UK is a nightmare with the whole "everyone's a terrorist!" thing.  The police are a bunch of panicky nutters and if you return to the UK now, you're capable of tying your own shoe laces you'll be viewed as a threat to national security.

yeah, I would tend to agree. The country that has invented carpet around the can..... any other European country it would be a different matter.

Along with outdoor, insinuated water pipes, it is the pinnacle of Britishnes. It is the art of having floor carpeting on the bathroom floor around the toilet.... Don't want to step onto a soggy carpet next to a toilet do you ?

The thing is the timing and where I've been an expat.  China's viewed as a bit too scary, and everyone's been up in arms about potential radicalization for ages.  At the moment anyone returning to the UK having lived in Russia, China, the middle east, or a whole host of other countries is viewed as being the next potential Bin Laden.  It is that bad.

Plus they've just voted that pack of bloody old Etonian wankers back in for 5 more years of "austerity" and flogging off what's left of the nation to their banker bumboys!

What the hell this guy has gone schizo. I'm in UK at the moment. Hardly noticed gestapo walking around. Maybe your name is Osama Bin Mohammed, your wife wears a burka, and you have Syrian /Saudi / Afghanistan stamps in your passport?

ScotsAlan:

What a strange post.  Are you saying the UK discriminates against people from certain countries? Are you saying the UK Police discriminate against people because of their names or their attire?

Last time I saw the news, Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia were our allies. Syria is a bit more complex, but I seem to recall something about the RAF bombing ISIS sites in Syria.... in support of our allies.

There I was feeling proud of being part of muticultural Britain, but you have destroyed that pride now.

Who would want to go to such a racist country.

No I was just being satirical. A Muslim friend of mine just made a joke about saying prayers on an airline. Can we not learn to joke about such things? There has to be some kind of profiling that security services do but I think they do it in a subtle way. That is only prudent.

Multiculturalism was always a bad idea. Telling different cultures that they could come to UK and live separate lives did not lead to a homogenous society. Blair Brown milliband, virtually everybody to do with labour, said the policy 1997 onwards of allowing too many people, too quickly into the UK, was a terrible idea. Has lead to massive strain on services and destabilized racial harmony. In the space of thirty years London has gone from being 97 percent white to 44 percent white. I think every ethnicity should be welcoming to new immigrants, but immigration should be strictly controlled. Every ethnicity should have its home and be allowed to retain its history and culture. I spit in the face of multiculturalism. Not racist I just want to know why is it only historically Christian countries that are not allowed to have their own place in the world

Saudi is our ally in only a superficial way. It is just an insurmountable fact that we need their oil. They need western countries to buy and produce oil. They are a country steeped in extremist Sunni Islam, the king more than anybody. It would not be a pleasant country to live in.

I'm surprised no comment from Hulk - I recall some strange things happened to him when he went home too.

People do need to be careful though, I've been told it's unofficial policy at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office that expats living abroad for 3 years or more are considered unlikely to return.  It affects how you're viewed by the authorities.

A:Good question!  I'd say, if you study at Uni in China beside working full-time as an E.T. with Residence permit, you don't interfere with your full-time employment. It's your free time and you can do anything you want, with respect to the Chinese laws and customs. Have a look at terms of Z visa/Residence permit and ... ".. you cannot work (and earn monies!) with another employer ..."That's all it is! Your RP sponsor title is written on the RP stamp in your passport, I think. It's in Mandarin, so I've heard about that from someone ...At I.D.-ing by cops, they know where you work and than more details about you are just a phone call away ... and it happened in person ... LOL ... during the day-time stroll through Wulumuqi, Xinjiang, 2012/13 semester. Now under RP, you're free to surf Internet, jog, ... and study, too. I suggest, you look and ask at the Uni, you plan to study in the future. Have a detailed look at requirements for studying and attending chosen Uni.Good luck! -- icnif77
