you have to book a licensed tour guide in advance , cheapest was 4000 that i found and permits are required for everything you do, seperate permits, llasa has 500000 local population with 200000 troops, its a miltary occupation with tents on every corner,
nobody really bothered me but i felt like i was in northern ireland in the 1980s, the 44 hour sleeper train from beijing was a nice route for 1200 rmb sleeper. i flew back, i dont know if you can go now, last june they restricted tourists because of self instantaneous combustion but maybe lifted now.

Northern Ireland in the '80's didn't require multiple visa's or have changing entry conditions. I have had many local friends who have travelled to Tibet - it sounds really beautiful.

sorry, i was referring to the IRA and the security soldiers everywhere, just like the soldiers everywhere in tibet.
I heard you can go but not alone you have to be accompanied by a group. And I believe there is one type of people that can't go, but it's not us fellow americans!
