Q: Tit for Tat.....What you Guy Says?
A fresh row has broken out between India and China over territorial claims in the north-eastern Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh and the Aksai Chin area in eastern Kashmir.
In new passports, China's maps show the two areas as Chinese territory.
The Indian embassy in Beijing is said to have retaliated by stamping Chinese visas with a map of their own which shows the territories in India.
Several of China's neighbours have also protested against the new map.
Vietnam, the Philippines, and Taiwan have all objected because it shows disputed islands in the South China Sea and Taiwan to be a part of China.
They have described the new design as a violation of their sovereignty.
Chinese official maps have long shown Taiwan and the South China Sea to be part of its own territory, but the inclusion of such claims on the passport has caused considerable anger.
The potentially oil-rich Paracel Islands, claimed by Vietnam since their troops were forced to leave by China in the 1970s and also claimed by Taiwan, make an appearance on the map, as do the Spratly Islands, part of which are claimed by the Philippines.
The disputed Senkaku or Diaoyu islands, at the centre of recent tension between China and Japan are not included in the new document.
Relations between India and China have been uneasy - the two countries dispute several Himalayan border areas and fought a brief war in 1962.
Delhi is yet to officially take up the row over the map with Beijing

Dont forget the moon!
Chang'e, a Chinese Princess was there first, nearly 2,000 years before Armstrong...
MissA:
The Vietnamese have the exact same story - only in their version it's a little Vietnamese kid on the moon, so they might dispute that story!
GuilinRaf:
Oi ve!!!
Edit: Actually, since Chang'e is an adult and the kid is a kid, well, I guess the adult wins since they tend to be stronger than kids.Scandinavian:
tough for the French that "Le Petit Prince" was not written until the 1940ies, that would be their claim to the moon
MissA:
Based on form, my money's on the Vietnamese over the French...

The smart money's on anything stronger than a stiff breeze when it comes to facing off against the French.
Well, the immediate effect of all of this will be felt by the average Indian trying to come to China. Visas for Indians are now harder to acquire then hen's teeth and working visas for Indians have been basically put on hold and in some provinces are not going to be granted at all. The Chinese don't need India much these days, not at all, and the Indian economy, which everyone though was going to be the new superstar, seems to have a hit a rut in the road, so to speak. Again, it's the average Joe that suffers. All this map stamping business is cute but truly pointless.
Just to clarify: the topic is about CHINESE passports and INDIAN visas. In particular, how the Indian government has made the Chinese government look foolish. The topic has absolutely nothing to do with Indians travelling to China.
If Chinese citizens want to travel to India, they must accept the map on the Indian visa, thus rejecting the map on the Chinese passport. In effect, they must renounce what the Chinese government has declared.
I would caution people to be careful with their words that the Chinese don't need India much these days. That is in direct contradiction to everything the Chinese government says about the BRICS alliance, and could get you called in for "a little chat."
I am sorry but I do not share the above poster's claim as to what the topic is about. It remains valid that many will be affected on a day-to-day level.
And no, Chinese citizens do not "renounce" anything -- those are rather broad words.

Why do you never use the "add comment" thing when you reply to someone?
Traveler:
The more comments he makes, the more chance he has of achieving his goal of getting the highest ever thumbs down score.

Let's make a deal, Kchur. You be and remain polite and I will use the "add comments" thing. How about that?
