Q: Traveling in the middle of Spring Festival to big cities?

Everyone says don't travel during spring festival but aren't most people going home back to the "countryside"? Is it easier to travel (by train preferably) between the big coastal cities, or is it still a hassle? What about if I left a day after spring festival begins and only spend 2-3 traveling? Anyone do this sort of thing before?

Any form of travel during Spring Festival requires an Act of God so to speak.  Please book your train tickets as early in advance as you can, either online, if a Chinese friend can help you, or by queuing at the train station as early as possible on the first day that tickets are put on sale.  It doesn't matter what day you will travel during this coming two month period -- the trains will be full and tickets will be hard to come by.  The same for plane tickets.  This is the major travel season for the country.

There really is no "good time" to travel during Spring Festival. The best thing to do is just stay home. If you must travel, then travel outside of China, it will be much easier.

The traveling part is pretty tuff, but most big cities are like ghost towns during spring festival
