"What am I paying for when I send my child to an expensive international school" - To answer your question you are paying to fund the lavish lifestyles of the bosses.

Most of the international schools in China are just total BS.

They have a little less corruption for one thing.

Just the other day, a good friend gave me a couple of bottles of nice wine as a CNY gift. As soon as the mother in law saw my gift she declared it would be a good gift for the manager of the local Government kindergarten my daughter starts at soon.

Nope I said. My wine. I have already paid for the corrupt feckers CNY holiday to Thailand. He can buy his own fecking wine.

I do agree with Chinese American that most international schools here are BS. charging tens of thousands to have unqualified teachers teach. But there are some proper ones out there. But they cost mega bucks.

Does the school demand a postgraduate professional teaching qualification plus two years high school teaching experience?. Then you're probably getting that plus easier entrance into a foreign university. and better teaching resources. Mixing with international kids so that your kid has better English.

This blog hit the nail on the head.

Personally, I have worked in an International school within Shanghai. I had to leave due to the moral responsibility and not willing to lie to parents. This is not how schools should be run nor any business. Parents are paying huge sums of cash for private intuition which, if im honest, is glorified day care.

Unfortunately, I have to tell you that these "Non-Profit organizations" called "Private international Schools" are just cash cows for the directors take huge pay packets. You will find within China, it is not what you know, more who. There are to many senior members in these organizations that have got no clue. I could rant for hours but would like to end this positively. There is a small number of schools like mentioned by ScotsAlan that do provide a correct, professional education system.

A:Good question!  I'd say, if you study at Uni in China beside working full-time as an E.T. with Residence permit, you don't interfere with your full-time employment. It's your free time and you can do anything you want, with respect to the Chinese laws and customs. Have a look at terms of Z visa/Residence permit and ... ".. you cannot work (and earn monies!) with another employer ..."That's all it is! Your RP sponsor title is written on the RP stamp in your passport, I think. It's in Mandarin, so I've heard about that from someone ...At I.D.-ing by cops, they know where you work and than more details about you are just a phone call away ... and it happened in person ... LOL ... during the day-time stroll through Wulumuqi, Xinjiang, 2012/13 semester. Now under RP, you're free to surf Internet, jog, ... and study, too. I suggest, you look and ask at the Uni, you plan to study in the future. Have a detailed look at requirements for studying and attending chosen Uni.Good luck! -- icnif77
