If you want them to be trouble free and pretty, strongly suggest the "plastic" kind. And why?. Because plants do need sun light on their leaves to do their thing, if not sooner or later they will die.
Nowm, if you can put up with the chore of moving the pot and plant to balcony when no guests are coming, and then moving it back to its proper place when you know guests are coming, then go with real ones. Of course, this will imply also watering them on a daily basis the proper amount (too much the roots will rotten and plant will die, too little it will dry up and die. Also fertilizing them on a two to 4 weeks schedule, and learning the plagues that could affect them so you can identify the problem early and after the proper spraying salvage the plant.
Don't get anything with a whole lot of leaves or shrubbery because roaches, spiders, and centipedes like to hide in those kinds of places.
