Scorpions in China can be extremely venomous and funnily enough used in tradition Chinese medicine. The same with poisonous toads. Centipedes are also dangerous and they could kill a person on rare occasions. although, Mosquitoes are number 1 they can give you anything from Malaria to elephantiasis. Funnily enough only the female is a menace:

The females of most mosquito species suck blood (hematophagy) from other animals, which has made them the deadliest disease vector known, killing millions of people over thousands of years and continuing to kill millions per year by the spread of infectious diseases.

There are also three types of spider to be weary of:

The Chinese bird spider (Haplopelma schmidti) is a type of tarantula found in southern China and Vietnam and is considered extremely aggressive and highly venomous.

The golden earth tiger (Haplopelma huwenum) is closely related to the Chinese bird spider, but is found only in the southernmost regions, in Guangxi Province. The spider gets its name from the golden color of its abdomen. Although the golden earth tiger is not known to have caused any deaths among humans, its venom has been documented to cause swelling, joint stiffness and severe pain in the bite area.

The Chinese wolf spider (Lycosa singoriensis) is distributed widely throughout northwestern China, often in rice fields. The wolf spider is said to have the ability to run very fast, and unlike wolf spiders found in the United States, has a venom that can destroy red blood cells, inducing hemorrhaging in humans. Bites from the Chinese wolf spider can also cause severe infections and often times prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell damage, which in turn may cause slow healing and possibly skin deformities.

I had a wolf spider in my room for 3 days last week before I was able to kill it. They are extremely fast and can climb up the wall.

A:I had a similar experience in HK. If I recall correctly, before or at the Z visa application, I had to submit ME from the ordinary HK clinic, where I explained why I need ME and I asked them to examine only necessary things (I don't remember the cost ...), and then ... I got Z stamp and when back in China, I had to complete another RP ME, which was on the employer, i.e. included in the Contract ...We've never discussed refund of payment for HK ME with my employer. Year 2013 ...I'd say, that is a regular thingy embassies around the world require, before issuing visas for LT stay in the country. "Vladimir Vladimiro-Witch ras-Putin" (LOL@your pronunciation ..) demands the same thingy before granting LT stay in Ruski.  ... Haa, 2013 was the Snowden's year. I was in Kowloon at the time of his landing .. with all these files ... I'm-Still-in-LMAO-State ... Cost for the ME in HK was around HK$ 2000/200 EUR, and ME was kind of swift, quicker and way shorter than on the mainland ... -- icnif77
