Can the postings history be improved so that it's easier to track what's been commented on... similar to the idea of having any comments thread you've posted on give notifications as well.

Eg, if Coin posts something, and then Hotwater comments... and then I comment - all 3 of us would get a notification to say that extra comments have been added - so we can, as suggested, have a longer discussion (where required).

MissA:

I recall making this suggestion like three years ago on a similar thread and getting multiple supportive comments, but it didn't happen. I don't much rate the chances now, either...

Yep! TBH, I doubt there'll be much change at all... They often ask for suggestions - and don't implement them :(

A) make our reputation on here turn into real guanxi in the real world!

b) stop asking "what can we do to make ECC better", when we know you won't actually implement anything - like all the other times it's been asked, and nothing changed.

Lord_hanson:

It's not the admins fault nothing will change. He will make a list and mention them during the weekly meeting. The boss will then deny them all because no reason.

Before putting anti foreigner news or how some foreigner got drunk in the subway in weird new section, try to add similar news about how Chinese behave badly in public.

For example: Weird News Number 1 - Rowdy Drunk Foreigners on Shanghai Subway Flash Underwear, Swing on Bars

Weird News Number 2 - Two Chinese guys having anal sex in public in Quanzhou        http://bbs.mnw.cn/thread-667608-1-1.html

aston.villa.f.c:

or even breaking news:

"many more Chinese people in other countries around the world than there are foreigners in China, mostly cooking or hiding under floorboards"

Difficult. I read many Chinese forums. I find this the best. Gokunming is a close second. The beijiner etc are rubbish.

How about if you asked for feedback from people who apply for jobs here. Most of the jobs advertised are fake. It's obvious. It comes across as a scam site almost.

Daves esl is the same.

They are all the same.

This site has a better mix of teacher posters and non teacher posters.

This site could be improved if you become an agent. Not just an advertising site. Put the adverts up, but somehow arrange so the people applying for the jobs can give feedback. So difficult.

You need to vet the advertisers.

Difficult. Erm. Many of the people who post on here post on other sites. How to get new posters?... Erm

Given that much of BBC reporting is based on Carrie Gracie sitting in her 5 star bubble office asking her Chinese staff what is trending on weibo.... Why not take one of Carrie Gracie's translators out for a meal and have ecc quoted as a source for news? The western media is a joke in china. Show them up. Become a news source. They copy you already. As does the daily mirror, the daily mail etc etc. They pick up your stories and publish them.

You have contributers from every corner of China. We see it. We live it. Put our stories into the mainstream media. Get our store up there so BBC etc cut and paste.

ScotsAlan:

But cedit you as the source of course.

Thought i would just resurrect this post to remind the Admin that some signs of action/thought were advisable.

There has been a sever troll infestation on this site where it is clear that some are using multiple aliases.

What would i like from ECC?

More than just empty words and what i call 'Chinese promises'.

A response at least on the various requests as a minimum courtesy would be nice.

In the jobs section it would be good if you could save searches. Also if the level of mandarin required was always mentioned, it would save a lot of time

It's already been mentioned but an ignore feature wpuld be great. One which stops you even seeing the posts of ignored people.

ScotsAlan:

I don't see the point to that lord H. Forums I contribute to with that function always end up with " I will ignore you".

Rather than jackets and torches as gifts... How about bottles of whisky and vodka? I know a guy who could help you with that Smile

One thing is for sure, there are too many "expat" websites in china competing for a dwindling customer base.

Many people who post on here seem to think this is a massive business. Its not. I suspect ecc is a one person company trying to make revenue from job adverts.

You have a good, ever changing core of forum contributors. But you advertise for people to become article authors. You are reaching out to wanna be writers such as Amanda Roberts hoping her contributions on here will elevate their CV and it costs you nothing.

As a business model... I like it.

I don't know what the answer is.

But what I do know is that I have met fantastic people through this site. We have actually met because of this site. We go out of our way to meet up.

And we share our madness on wechat.

But we still post here.

ECC is the best foreigner site in China.

iWolf:

I have to agree with you on one point in particular Mr ScotsAlan, ECC is the best expat site in China.

There is a healthy mix of community, cynicism, humour and banter on this site. Even the obvious trolls are a comedy vehicle at times.

Add a category for obvious troll's questions instead of "General" or whatever.

"Stupid" category might work too but Admin Cat would have to manage the migration of questions to these categories in some cases.

After seeing yet another empty-set question from "Awkward"...how about imposing a minimum of 30 words along with the minimum word count on questions (i.e. you have to provide some sort of back-story or additional information to your question)?

Also, how about disabling up-votes or down-votes unless a member actually posts a response in a thread? In this way, we will know that the supporters and detractors are contributing at least something.

ScotsAlan:

Good idea about the upvote/downvote thing. Get a certain amount of points to be able to vote. That would help get rid of the phantom downvoters.

I know this is sort of 'necro-posting', but i would appreciate some sort of acknowledgement/feedback from Admin.

You don't ask 'customers/forum users' what they would like and then ignore them.

Basic Digital Marketing 101 is acknowledge the people you want to engage with and to visit your site.

as non-Chinese, I don't like being ignored by a someone who asks what i think and the proceeds to ignore what is said.

Many of the posters have valid concerns, especially about spamming, trolling, and multiple account users. A previous Admin was very quick about responding and sorted a few of the problems out, yet they have returned as they always do.

We all know you are online, yet you just ignore your main market angry

Make notifications to those who make comments when someone replies to their comment, it would allow for greater fluency of conversation within threads. For example I've had long discussions in which I've had to check and recheck whether I'd been left a response or not. That's a drag.

A:Good question!  I'd say, if you study at Uni in China beside working full-time as an E.T. with Residence permit, you don't interfere with your full-time employment. It's your free time and you can do anything you want, with respect to the Chinese laws and customs. Have a look at terms of Z visa/Residence permit and ... ".. you cannot work (and earn monies!) with another employer ..."That's all it is! Your RP sponsor title is written on the RP stamp in your passport, I think. It's in Mandarin, so I've heard about that from someone ...At I.D.-ing by cops, they know where you work and than more details about you are just a phone call away ... and it happened in person ... LOL ... during the day-time stroll through Wulumuqi, Xinjiang, 2012/13 semester. Now under RP, you're free to surf Internet, jog, ... and study, too. I suggest, you look and ask at the Uni, you plan to study in the future. Have a detailed look at requirements for studying and attending chosen Uni.Good luck! -- icnif77
