Q: What crime has the harshest/laxest penalty in China?

Could go either way, but essentially which penalty do you feel truly doesn't match the severity of the crime, either by going way over board, or not enough?

Speaking out about human rights and/or the govt. They are way to harsh, but thats how they keep things as they are.

Some countries give money fraud a slap on the wrist. China though if you are caught can mean death. Same with drugs also the death penalty.

I would say corruption, drugs and betray the state, since they carry a death sentence for the harshest ones.

And for the laxest (is that a legal word?) one I would say wife abuse,  here in China it is considered a family matter, and Police will not intervene.

Depends on the corruption charge, laundering is a pretty harsh offense also. Hard Drugs will definitely get you a death sentence. Lax I wouldn't know what to say, if you know the right people, it seems that almost all laws would be lax

The laws here are written ambiguously on purpose so they can be twisted and manipulated in any situation to serve whoever they've pre-determined to be the winner.

Definitely domestic violence. There are no systems in place to report/charge men for abusing their wives/girlfriends and there is no protection for women who wish to leave an abuser. Just google Kim Lee/ Li Yang to see just how women are not just victims of abuse, but also victims of a system that fails to protect them.

A:Chinese are generally pretty tolerant friendly and accepting whatever foreigners do.  I spent 15 years in China but I wouldn't say there are that many don'ts....Don't assume that many people speak English though and learn some Chinese. Don't speak much about politics unless you want to praise Chinese system.  -- Natalie363
