I think they made the actual change in August but it's been constantly in the news over the past month. It's basically an official prenup. When couples get divorced now property will go to the person whose name is on the lease (before it was divided evenly). Thoughts ?

I think it is a good idea, saves a lot of fighting etc, they should have it like that in every country!

I meant if the owner was actually the buyer! If someone puts their name and does not pay, well that is crap!!
Yeah I agree. I mean the law could be considered "fair" maybe in another country. But given the culture stigma against women purchasing homes how could it possibly REALLY be fair?
My [Chinese] students defended it, saying that Chinese women either are gold diggers or don't work so the law is fair. I then asked them how much childcare, a maid and a personal chef would cost them each month. From the sound of it, their mothers' "job" is worth more than their fathers'.

Women are making more money than men in Chinese society now so I think it makes sense. It'll keep men from outsourcing wives as heavily sense they know their assets are protected by the law.
too many loop holes, chinese need to learn about life without marriage
