Q: What documents do we need to get married in Hong Kong?

My girlfriend and I are going to marry, but her family does not approve and hid her hukou. Family and friends cannot convince the parents and brothers to give it to her. So, we are thinking of marrying in Hong Kong. American and Mainland Chinese. What documents do we need to take to Hong Kong to marry, assuming it is possible?

I think you just need the passports. HappyExPat, or anyone else, can you chime in, please?

At present time, I am totally confused.  Someone posted months ago that he got married in HKG with just the passport.  I trusted him, and later on posted the same in reply to a question  Well, the person went to HKG and he was required his divorce decree sealed by Court, and a few others, he dealt with the Marriage Registering Office.  So, honestly I have no idea who is right, the one who claimed no papers needed, or the one who claimed papers are required.  But I found a private lawyer that for 1900 HKG dollars can do everything for you (that is what the website claims).  I have not dealt with him/her at all.  But you can give them a call and inquire over a long distance call, explain your situation and they will tell you how to proceed.  Their website address is :

I am sorry to tell you that Hukou is required even getting married in Hongkong.

For your GF: Hukou and HK passport

For yourself: Passport should be enough ,they only asked my husband to show them his passport,He's An Aussie.

Good luck.

Seriously, the Hukou is required even in Hong Kong? What the hell? What if his girlfriend has a passport?

And why does she need a Hong Kong Passport...? If his girlfriend has a passport, wouldn't she need an HK visa, and not an HK passport?
