Q: What has the pollution in China done to you?

Yeah, I am asking a lot of comparison questions at the moment.

But one thing that was always on my mind while living in China was... is this smog really messing me up?

Many chemical companies, factories and mines just simply pay off the local government. Nobody complains if they know what is good for them, and nobody seems to really care as long as many are ignorant of the health effects.

Here are some extreme differences I have noticed...

While in China:

- having a cold in China would be horrible, they would normally last a week or two... constantly coughing up mucus and then a lingering cough for about a month (THIS WAS WHILE TAKING MEDICATION)

- extremely dry air (this could be location based but seemed more pollution based), so dry that sometimes I would wake up with nose bleeds

- having a lot more trouble breathing while climbing hills, running outside or physical activity

- waking up feeling extremely poorly rested like I hadn't even gone to sleep at all

- films of dust on everything after only a day or two of cleaning

- hair loss (I chalked it up as aging but returned when I came back to Canada... possibly stress and pollution?)

While in Canada:

- having a cold lasted three days, barely any mucus coughed up, no lingering cough (NO MEDICATION AT ALL)

- air is still somewhat dry in winter but none of the same side effects

- insane strength increase in the gym, cycling for 30 minutes cardio is easy, running is much easier... wtf?

- only need 6-7 hours of sleep and feel much better rested than a 10-12 hour sleep in China

- films of dust take months build up like they do in China after only a few days

- overall increased vitality

I am very surprised and thought most of the issues I had in China were due to aging and maybe change of diet but it seems that wasn't the case. I don't care how much money people make in China... it just isn't worth it.

Has anyone else noticed any changes when returning to their home country? Where are some of the illnesses or effects you have ran into during your stay in China?

Happy days - fewer health problems in the fresh clean air and ability to exercise out-doors.

Pls state also where you were living in China. It would be interesting for comparison.

Robk:

That's true. Not all parts of China are the same.

I was in Tianjin, Xian, Suzhou and experienced the same issues in all cities. I think the southern parts of China are cleaner... but still have an above average concentration of pollution.

A:Good question!  I'd say, if you study at Uni in China beside working full-time as an E.T. with Residence permit, you don't interfere with your full-time employment. It's your free time and you can do anything you want, with respect to the Chinese laws and customs. Have a look at terms of Z visa/Residence permit and ... ".. you cannot work (and earn monies!) with another employer ..."That's all it is! Your RP sponsor title is written on the RP stamp in your passport, I think. It's in Mandarin, so I've heard about that from someone ...At I.D.-ing by cops, they know where you work and than more details about you are just a phone call away ... and it happened in person ... LOL ... during the day-time stroll through Wulumuqi, Xinjiang, 2012/13 semester. Now under RP, you're free to surf Internet, jog, ... and study, too. I suggest, you look and ask at the Uni, you plan to study in the future. Have a detailed look at requirements for studying and attending chosen Uni.Good luck! -- icnif77
