Q: What is the living expense in Shenzen for ESL teacher?

I would like to learn how much salary will be enough for living comfortably in shenzen.

It will be nice if some esl teachers share their experiences for living in Shenzhen.

Lets say eating couple of times in restaurants and going out twice a week.

What is the cost of enting a normal apartment etc. ?

I live in GZ, not SZ, but the cost of living is similar.

Rent will be a minimum 4000 RMB in the city, going up to tens of thousands.  I would budget for 6k-7k rent. Out on the edge of the city you might get a place for 3k. But that will be a long way out.  Remember, you will most likely not be able to rent really cheap, because the local police station might refuse to register you. Foreigners are supposed to live in gated complexes with security.

Eating out, same as anywhere else. Anything from a few RMB for street-side noodles or 1000RMB for a steak dinner for two with a bottle of wine. Brazillian buffet will be about 130 RMB excluding drinks.

A pint of beer in a western bar 40-60 RMB a pint, less during happy hour.  Or buy beer from corner shops and sit outside for 6RMB a pop.

Taxis are about 20-30RMB for a 10-15 minute ride, 100RMB for a 50 minute ride.

It's really not that much different from any other big city.

Have a look on "Shenzen Stuff". Lots of info there.
