We just had Thursday, Friday and Saturday off for the Dragon Boat races, then we have to go back to work on a Sunday for a 6 day working week, why cant they just give you Friday Saturday and Sunday?
why cant they just give you the 4 days off then? I dont like going to Kindergarten on a Sunday it sucks balls.I dont get the logic of these make up days when you have a holiday.
I always thought it was because they just can't bring themselves to give their staff something for nothing.
This way they get to brag about how generous and kind (workers paradise remember) they are to their staff AND not give up anything themselves.

Right, for the ghetto companies that do that and govt etc it gives the people at the top the best of all worlds. They can take those days off anyway but don't have to give others the same courtesy.
I think a lot of stuff like that here is just to remind everyone who is in charge
I had to do Mon's schedule on last week's Sat and Sun. I am not sure, for which Mon, I had to work, but then I was off whole last week.
Indeed I don't know what is worse - dragging yourself out of bed on Sunday morning for work or having to teach on a warm Sunday afternoon.
Let's see this afternoon whether my students comprehend my meaning when I said that I won't be taking the register on make-up day.
Because the people who make decisions like that aren't affected by it.

I think there are a few aspects to this practice. Here are a few thoughts I have on the topic and I'm sure there are more but I think Mr Stiggs nailed it.
1. As Stiggs said, they just can't bring themselves to give their staff something for nothing.
2. Parents want their money's worth
3. Parents want to have their free time without the kids
4. There is a thought that a day off means a day without learning is a waste and will ruin the kid's future
5. It was always done this way
6. Because China
